Saratoga Springs, NY - James V. Conroy passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife, Barbara, at his side on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010. Born in Troy, NY, November 14, 1949, he was the son of the late Timothy and Mary (Cahill) Conroy. He was a graduate of Catholic Central HS in Troy, NY and attended Hudson Valley Community College. Jims profound interest in the automotive world led him to his first employment at the former Bumstead Chevrolet dealership in Troy, followed by 24 years of service at Action Chevrolet in Troy and more recently at Saratoga Chrysler Jeep, Inc. as Warranty Supervisor. He retired from there due to serious illness in September, 2008. In keeping with his passion for vehicles, Jim was an avid collector of all types and sizes of die cast cars. An equally fond hobby of his was rail fanning, i.e. photographing trains. He would spend hours on end seeking out and following the colorful and majestic engines awaiting the perfect opportunity to photograph them as they passed through the aesthetic countryside. Some of Jims train pictures have been selected for publication in locomotive magazines, while others have graced the fronts of postcards. In October, 2008, Jim married his dearest friend of many years, Barbara Lynaugh of Saratoga Springs. Together they welcomed into their home many an orphaned feline, the most recent of which was their favorite little pal and comforting companion, Bruppy. Jim deeply appreciated all the continued warmth, concern and loving care extended to him by family and friends throughout this difficult past year. Those who knew him best will remember him as a patient, considerate, wise, gentle, and compassionate man. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, John Conroy (Linda), brother-in-law and sister-in-law Richard and Donna Lynaugh, mother-in-law Hilda Lynaugh and nephew Daniel R. Lynaugh, all of Johnstown, NY and nieces Kelly M. Loner (Paul) of Plattsburgh and Vicki L. Schaake (Geoff) of Ballston Spa. Jims and Barbaras family wish to extend heartfelt gratitude to so many people involved in Jims well being and care. Among them are Father John Kirwin, Dr. Ankesh Nigam, Dr. David M. Mastrianni and staff, Dr. James Noonan, physical therapist Jeffrey Fear, Dr. Gary Siskin, Anthem Health Services, Community Hospice of Saratoga, East Avenue and nearby neighbors, and numerous cherished colleagues, family and friends. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8pm Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway with the Rev. John Kirwin officiating. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to memorialize Jims life may make a donation to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham, NY 12110-3098; Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866; Adirondack Save-a-Stray, 4880 State Rt. 9N, Corinth, NY 12822 or H.O.P.E (Home for Orphaned Pets Exist), PO Box 2497, Wilton, NY 12831.
