"Longtime Saratoga Springs, NY resident, James G. Gersin, aged 77, known to all as Jim, died peacefully at home on May 14, 2025.

He was the son of the late, Elaine and Sumner Gersin. Born in Acushnet, MA he grew up in New Bedford, MA.

His love for the ocean led him to join the US Navy, proudly serving on the aircraft carrier, Franklin Delano Roosevelt in the Mediterranean and South China Sea during the Vietnam War. Jim was also an avid reader and self-taught artist who enjoyed sketching and watercolors, especially of ocean and boat themed landscapes.

Jim married Susan (Sue) A. Green, moving to Niskayuna, NY before settling in Saratoga Springs, NY in 1989. He was employed by the New York State Department of Corrections in Radio Communications for over 35 years prior to his retirement. During his retirement he and his wife, Sue, bred, trained and showed Australian Terriers. Jim was also an avid reader and self-taught artist who enjoyed sketching and watercolors, especially of ocean and boat themed landscapes.

Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue, of Saratoga Springs NY; daughter, Melissa Gersin, of Germany and sister, Cathy G. Morochnick, of Middleboro, MA. He was the grandfather of Lotte and Rosie of Germany.

Relatives and friends may call from 10:00am – 12:00pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, with a funeral home service at 12:00pm at the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Burial with military honors will be held at 1:30pm at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY following the service.
