Malta, NY -James A. Gilchrist, more commonly known as "Jimmy", passed away March 7, 2014 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 65. Jimmy was born June 24, 1948 in Albany, NY to Teresa Gilchrist and the late Robert Gilchrist. After serving in the US Navy from 1965-1969 on the USS Strong dd-768 as a boiler technician during the Vietnam War, Jimmy was employed at the Saratoga State Park as a plant utilities manager for more than 30 years. Since retiring, he enjoyed his employment as the bar manager at Quarters in Saratoga Springs. If Jimmy wasn't golfing, watching Price is Right with the guys at Quarters or simply helping out one of his many friends, Jimmy usually just enjoyed spending time in his recliner, having a Bud while watching TV with his loving wife, Freda Thompson Gilchrist. Jimmy was a long time resident of Mechanicville. In addition to his father, Jimmy is predeceased by his twin brother John. Jimmy is survived by his wife Freda and mother Teresa; one son, Patrick Thompson and his wife Alison of Newport News, VA; one daughter, Elizabeth Morelli of Mechanicville, NY; three grandsons, Bryce, Julius, and Sabastian; one granddaughter Kelsea; five siblings, Eddy, Danny, Susan, William and Robert; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7pm Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). Graveside services with military honors will be 1pm Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road.
