Wilton, NY- James Howard Hartman, 77, passed away on September 6, 2024, after a long illness.
Mr. Hartman was born in Buffalo, N.Y., to Charles and Nora (nee Olsen) Hartman on December 24, 1946. He graduated from Kensington High School in 1964. In 1969 he decided to enlist in the US Air Force even though he had a college deferment. He served for four years, including one year with the 6924th Security Service at DaNang Air Base, Republic of Viet Nam. His last two years of service were spent working at the National Security Agency in Maryland.
After returning from service Mr. Hartman completed his college education receiving a Bachelor's degree (1974) and Master's degree (1977) from Buffalo State College.
He went on to work for the U.S. Department of Labor for 27 years, the last 17 as the New York State Director of the Veterans Employment and Training Service where he received numerous State and National awards for his efforts to serve unemployed veterans.
He was predeceased by his father, mother, and five brothers, Charles, Richard, Robert, Kenneth and Daniel. He is survived by twelve nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews, several of whom followed his lead and went on to serve their country in the Air Force National Guard, Air Force Reserve, US Army and the Marines Corp.
A graveside service with military honors will take place on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 2:30PM at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd. Schuylerville, NY 12831.
