Obituary

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - James John (Jim) Marshall passed away peacefully at Glens Falls Hospital Wednesday May 11, 2011 after a long struggle with Kidney disease. He was 84 years old. Born June 15, 1926 in Philadelphia, PA. , he was the son of Henrietta and William Boyd and brother to his only sibling Marie. Jim graduated from Northeast High School, Philadelphia, PA in 1944 before entering the Army Air Corp where he served as a crew chief on B-17 bombers until 1946. He then began his career as a Draftsman and later completed schooling to obtain his Architect License. He was dedicated to designing, specification writing, and as project Architect on many prominent structures in the Philadelphia area. Jim was a devote husband to his wife Helen of 63 years, model father to their only son James W. Marshall Sr.(Lorraine), and cherished grandfather to Jennifer A. Garrity (Ethan), James W. Marshall Jr.(Ella) and Jonathan A. Marshall (Ashante). He was also the proud great-grandfather to Trinity, Jadyn, Liam, Peyton, Nathan, and Leah. Jim and Helen resided in Warrington, PA for 57 years. There he found peace in his family, his wood carving, stamp collecting, gardening, flowers, and in the Boy Scouts with his son. He was also a member of the Neshaminy Warwick Presbyterian Church and Gildas Club of Bucks County. Jim and Helen moved to Saratoga Springs in June of 2009 to be closer to family and to receive extended care for several of his illnesses. Here he was cared for by doctors, nurses, and staff at Saratoga Hospital, The Rubin Dialysis Center, and at home nurses and aides, without whose help, he would have not been able to enjoy his family for an additional 2 years. His kind heart and smile will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 16, 2011 at 1:00 pm at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes 628 North Broadway Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 (518) 584-5373. Reverend Tony Green from the First Congregational Church of Albany will help us to find peace in this moment of sadness. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Saratoga Hospital Foundation Unit D-1, 211 Church Street Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or the Rubin Dialysis Center, 1850 Peoples Avenue, Troy, NY 12181.
