Obituary

In Loving Memory of James “Jim” and Judith “Judy” Scandura

James “Jim” and Judith “Judy” Scandura passed away within a day of each other, closing a 71-year marriage that formed the foundation of a remarkable family legacy.

Jim and Judy built their life on faith, family, hard work, and service. Together they raised seven children, their greatest pride: James (Susan), Ann-Marie (Thomas), Donna (Dennis), Thomas (Nicole), Sharon (Peter), Janet (Jeffrey), and Lucy. Their family grew to include 63 beloved children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family members, each a source of joy and love.

Family gatherings were the heart of their lives. Their annual Thanksgiving Eve celebration became a treasured tradition, extending into a holiday, filled with laughter, stories, and togetherness that created lasting memories for generations.

Jim devoted many years to New York State service, ultimately becoming Director of Welfare Management, and was respected for his leadership, integrity, and commitment to helping others. Judy, after raising their children, built a successful career with the New York State Republican Party, where she served for many years with dedication, intelligence, and grace.

While proud of their professional accomplishments, Jim and Judy considered their greatest success to be their family. They instilled values of kindness, responsibility, perseverance, and love that continue to live on through each generation.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated aides who provided compassionate care, allowing Jim and Judy to remain in their home with dignity and independence in their later years. Special thanks are extended to Clara LaPlante for her extraordinary devotion, warmth, and care, which meant so much to the entire family.

Though their passing leaves an immeasurable void, there is comfort in knowing they remained inseparable after more than seven decades together. Their love story reflects unwavering commitment, enduring partnership, and unconditional love.

Jim and Judy will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and lovingly held in the hearts of all who knew them. Their legacy lives on in the family they cherished and the many lives they touched.
