IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James
Littorin
April 14, 1928 – March 10, 2017
Saratoga Springs – Jim Littorin (also known as Jimmy LaTour) a popular local entertainer of the 70s and 80s passed away on March 10, 2017. Jim was born in the Bronx but moved upstate and graduated from Troy H.S.
Following high school. Jimmy eventually settled in Saratoga Springs and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War where he was assigned to the amphibious force. Following his honorable discharge from the service, Jim came home and married his childhood sweetheart, Phyllis. He worked at GE for several years before deciding his calling for music was greater than machinery.
With a talent for playing several musical instruments, a wonderful singing voice, and the gift of gab on a microphone, he quickly became a local favorite to the listening public. In 1967 he was contacted by a Washington D.C. based musical group and asked to volunteer to entertain the U.S. troops in Vietnam for a two week time. Without hesitation he agreed and two weeks turned into two years. From January 1968, the "Tet" offensive, to the start of the military wind down in June 1970, Jim worked to boost the morale of the troops during very difficult battle conditions. He forever felt a strong connection of brotherhood and understanding to those who served in that conflict.
When Jim came home he became very active in veterans affairs and many veteran organizations. He was awarded life membership in American Legion Post 337 Broadalbin, was a member of Kennyetto Masonic Lodge, 32nd degree Scottish Rite and the Oriental Shrine Temple, the B.P.O. Elks, the Korean War Veterans Association, and a life member of the D.A.V. He continued his service to the veterans and ultimately became National Commander of the Forty and Eight, an honor society at the time within the America Legion.
He leaves behind a forever loved wife, Phyllis, and a wonderful close family of nieces and nephews.
Burial with military honors will take place on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at 11am, at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery (200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY). The family would welcome seeing and meeting all those who remember Jim.
