Saratoga Springs, NY - James Joseph McBride passed away Friday (Feb. 13, 2009) at the Wesley Health Care Center. He was 76. Born on Aug. 17, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Elmira (Barrett) McBride, attended Philadelphia schools and graduated from John Bartram High School, where he played baseball. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree and Master's Degree in Physical Education from Ithaca College, Ithaca, NY and served four years in the US Air Force at Sampson Air Force Base as a basic training instructor. For 29 years, he taught physical education, retiring in 1988. He also taught Driver Education during the summers for 25 years. On Nov. 6, 1953, he married the former Virginia Stanford, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Virginia (Rev. Gary) Schindler of Springville, NY and Jamie McBride and son-in-law, Gregory Tardanico, both of Mukilteo, WA; two sisters, Claire Evans of Land-o-Lakes, FL and Carol Fremowitz of Lutz, FL; five grandchildren, Veronica Gonzalez of Montgomery, AL, Kara (Sam) Snyder with the Peace Corps in Cambodia, Jeremy Schindler of Springville, James and Jacqueline Tardanico of Mukilteo, WA; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including Michael McBride of Port St. Lucie, FL. A memorial service will be conducted at the Presbyterian-New England Congregational Church at a later date. Burial with military honors will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway (584-5373).
