Saratoga Springs, NY James C. Ohlsen, Jr. passed away Tuesday (Dec. 13, 2011) at Saratoga Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 66. Born on July 1, 1945 in Plattsburgh, NY he was the son of the late James C. and Jane (Wilson) Ohlsen, Sr. An avid sports fan, he loved the NY Giants and LA Dodgers. For many years, Jim coached the golf program at Saratoga Central Catholic High School. Their team was number one under his guidance in 1996, 1997 and 1998 in the Tri-Valley League. He served as a member of the school board and was instrumental for implementing a program called Mollys Rule, whereby every player on a modified team would have an opportunity to have playing time during a game no matter their talent. An avid golfer, he was a huge supporter and golfed in the annual Father Bondi Golf Tournament to benefit numerous programs at the school. Jim could always be counted on to help his teams in various financial ways, uniforms, golf bags, etc. He wanted them to look good as a team, yet it was more important to him to teach the game of golf with emphasis on the importance of the proper behavior, ethics and rules. He was always a true gentleman. Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Donna (Foster) Ohlsen; a son, Jim Ohlsen and daughter, Caitlin (Bill) Hart; his grandchildren, Jake, Daisy and Ava; a brother Christopher (Deborah) Ohlsen; his sisters Karen Ohlsen and Kathryna O. (Bob) Zuckerman and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank EVERYONE in ICU and Respiratory Therapy at Saratoga Hospital for their compassionate care of Jim. Jim loved life and living. Private funeral arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway 584-5373.
