Dr. James C. Prendergast, DVM

May 28, 1946 to June 25, 2026

Dr. James C. Prendergast, DVM, affectionately known as “Doc,” passed peacefully on June 25, 2026 in Saratoga Springs, NY. He spent his final days surrounded by friends, family, and his devoted terrier Cutter. Doc is survived by: three children including son John and wife Heather, daughter Heather, and daughter Carrie and husband Jonathan Pagnussat; as well as his brother George Prendergast of Kerrville, TX. He is also survived by nieces Ashley Prendergast and Laura Prendergast (Griffin Myer), nephew Hunter Prendergast (Chelsea), grandchildren, and a very extensive network of friends. Doc was preceded in death by his loving wife Patti, mother Phyllis, and father Dr. J. L. (Jack) Prendergast of Panhandle, TX.

Doc’s family is planning a celebration of life during the meet this summer, and will share details when they are available.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doc’s memory to The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, and The American Cancer Society.
