Hoosick Falls, NY James E. Stevens, Jr., formerly of Saratoga Springs, passed away Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY. He was 85. Born on May 30, 1926 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late James E. and Flora May (Deyoe) Stevens, Sr. James served in the US Army Infantry from 1944 to 1947 during which time he was in the Battle of the Bulge with General Patton. He received an honorable discharge in 1947, then served in the New York State Army National Guard from 1947 to 1968, proudly serving his country for 24 years. His employment included working at Grippins Grocery Store, The Saratogian, the Saratoga Bowling Alley as a bowling instructor, NY State Division of Military & Naval Affairs and as Armory Superintendent at the State Armory in Saratoga Springs. He retired on May 30, 1986, his 60th birthday. James enjoyed family picnics on Memorial Day and umpiring Little League games. He was of the catholic faith. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by one son, Patrick Stevens, a sister, Alice (Stevens) Maher and a brother William Stevens. Survivors include his wife, Theresa (Hebert) Stevens of Saratoga Springs; two sons, Thomas Stevens of Dallas, TX, Joseph (Janie) Stevens of Bothell, WA; one daughter, Karen Stevens of Saratoga Springs and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Stevens also of Saratoga Springs. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 7pm Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Friday, April 13, 2012 at St. Clements Church, 231 Lake Ave. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peters Cemetery, West Ave. Donations may be made to Saratoga Hospital, 211 Church St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
