Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY – Janet Kutny, 76, passed away unexpectedly in early December at her home in the Embury Apartments in Saratoga Springs. Born in Brooklyn, NY on July 14, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Anthony "Tony" and Katherine (Dowbak) Kutny and later moved to Schenectady, NY.

After graduation from Mohonasen Central School and St. Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield, Mass., Janet served in the Peace Corp. for 2 years in Afghanistan. Upon her return to America, she worked at various hospitals in the NYC area and was an active participant in the anti-war movement.

Janet subsequently worked as a registered nurse at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady and Saratoga Hospital while completing her bachelor's degree in psychology from Skidmore University Without Walls. Upon her retirement, she volunteered with various organizations associated with mental health.

Along with her parents, Janet was predeceased by her brother, Richard Kutny. Survivors include her cousins, Janine Conklin and Alice Wielandt; sister-in-law Elsie Kutny; several cousins; nephews and nieces; and longtime friend, Carolyn Millis.

Graveside services will be held in the spring.

Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home of 628 North Broadway (518-584-5373).
