Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Janet Baker Robbins passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2018.  She was born in Troy, NY on November 2, 1929 to William & Jessie (Waufle) Baker.

Janet graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy in 1947 and Trinity College, Washington, D.C. in 1951 with a B.A. in English. In 1956, she married Frank T. Robbins in Our Lady's Chapel, St. Patrick's Cathedral, NY, NY. They resided in Syracuse, NY where Janet continued as a social worker with Catholic Charities having transferred from the Troy office. Together they decorated and landscaped their homes in Latham, Syracuse and Clinton, NY before settling in Saratoga Springs. Amidst Janet's flower gardens and Frank's rock walls, they entertained family and friends.

Janet was a substitute teacher at Saratoga High School and later worked in Pupil Personnel Services for Ballston Spa School District for over 18 years.  She did graduate work in social work at Russell Sage and SUNY Albany. In retirement she pursued paralegal studies and became a mediator for Saratoga County.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Janet volunteered her time with the American Lung Association, the American Heart Association, the Saratoga Hospital Guild and the Katrina Trask Garden Club. She especially loved a lively debate and often engaged in intellectual discussion. She expected one to justify their position with examples of supporting evidence whether discussing Saratoga zoning laws or national politics. No topic was off limits. Whether as a child, teenager or adult, family or friend, Janet's wisdom and witty humor was imparted generously to all.

Survivors include her children, Thomas Carl Robbins and Daniel Comerford Robbins of Saratoga Springs and Ann Leland "Nancy" Robbins Winn and her husband, Joseph, of Burlington, Vermont. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael & Lauren (Iachetta) Robbins, Maxwell Robbins and Kathryn Winn, and great grandson, Vincent Michael Robbins. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Robert K. Baker and her husband, Frank.

Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2018 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (518-584-5373).
