Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Janet Lyttle Tayler died peacefully on Wednesday, November 10,2010 at Wesley Health Care Center. She was 76. Born on July 2, 1934, in Syracuse, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Margaret Jane Mathers and Edward John Lyttle. Janet was married on August 28, 1954 to Bruce Tayler, also of Syracuse, N.Y. She graduated from Syracuse Central High School and worked for New York Telephone Co. Janet then graduated from Binghamton University with a BA in Business Management, Summa Cum Laude. She was employed by General Electric in Binghamton, N.Y. as an Aerospace Division Contracts Manager. Janet and Bruce lived in Syracuse, NY, Liverpool, NY, Bakersfield, CA., Binghamton, NY, and had a beautiful home on Afton Lake that served as a gathering place for very special family visits. She enjoyed reading, painting, crafts, gardening and traveling. She was a member of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls (daughters of Masons and Eastern Star) and the GE Elfin Society. Janet was very proud of her parents who emigrated from Belfast, Ireland. She and Bruce cared for her mother, in their home, for 33 years. Janet attended the Presbyterian New England Congregational Chruch in Saratoga. Survivors include her husband, Bruce Tayler; daughters, Peggy Tayler-MacNeill and husband James of Saratoga Springs, the Reverend Nancy Hauser and husband Edwin of Exton, son David Tayler and wife Kellianne of Liverpool. David is currently serving in the Air National Guard in Afghanistan. Janet is also survived by her grandchildren Michael Hauser, Jeffrey Hauser and his wife Kirstyn, Megan MacNeill and fianc Greg Badger, Caroline Hauser, Brandilyn Tayler, Briana Hauser, and Lauren MacNeill, great-grandson Cole Hauser and one sister, Shirley Lyttle. Janet was raised with two very special cousins B.J. Kempton and Margaret Moreland. They were referred to as the Mathers Girls, after the original Mathers girls, including her mother, Margaret, and her mothers sisters; Elizabeth, Violet, Alice, and Nellie. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. All donations will be used to further the education of community health care workers in the mission of Hospice, death with dignity and palliative care. Graveside services will be at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will be celebrated at a later date.
