Wilton, NY - On Thursday, January 13th, Janice Madaline Szot (Heins) passed away from natural causes at her home in Wilton, NY at the age of 75.

On November 3rd, 1946, Janice was born in New Jersey and raised in Floral Park, NY by her loving parents Alice and Albert Heins, who were both World War II veterans. After a happy childhood on Long Island, Janice made the pivotal decision to head north in the late 1960s to receive her Master's degree in Education at SUNY Plattsburgh. She eventually became a career teacher at Greenfield Elementary School, where she worked for nearly 30 years as a 4th grade teacher. During this time, she raised a son, Adam Szot (41) of Cranston, RI and a daughter, Sarah Szot (36) of New Orleans, Louisiana. She is also survived by two sisters, Debbie Hatler, of Norfolk, VA and Linda Privett, of Riverhead, NY with 3 nieces and nephews: Julian and Grace Hatler, and Joshua Privett.

She is known by all who knew her for the passion, drama and humor that she directed toward life. She genuinely loved and appreciated all of her students, colleagues, friends and family who supported her and gave her life meaning over the years.
