Eagle Bridge, NY - Jean M. (Brady) Fleming, 69, of Eagle Bridge, NY, beloved wife of Edward L. Fleming, died peacefully on Friday (15 June 2018) in her own home surrounded by her loving family, in view of her beloved Green Mountains.
Born in Buffalo, NY on 26 December 1948, Jean was the daughter of the late Vincent de Paul and Ruth (Sykes) Brady. She was raised in Buffalo and summered in Brownsville, Vermont at her maternal grandmother's home. Jean was a graduate of Mount Saint Mary High School in Tonawanda, New York and continued her education first at Trinity College in Vermont and then at University of Buffalo in New York earning a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. While at the University of Buffalo, she met her husband Ed and they were married in Buffalo, New York on 11 July 1970.
As an Air Force Helicopter Rescue Service family, Jean and Ed lived in many places such as Texas, Alabama, Utah, New Mexico, the Philippines, Buffalo and Cutchogue, Long Island New York, before settling in this area. In this life, they faced many risks and hazards, yet Jean steadfastly maintained a warm and loving family environment that made this life style sustainable for 30 years.
Jean was always focused on others as can be seen by her volunteer work within the community, making knitted clothing for the premature babies in local hospitals, knitted hats for the homeless and made numerous contributions of time and money to numerous charities. She was quietly most gratified by her donation of over 16 gallons of blood, "so that others may live".
Jean was an exceptionally gifted fiber artist and seamstress, envisioning and delighting in the enumerable possibilities of any given fabric. Her designs were extraordinary for their juxtaposition of color, pattern, and textile. Jean made everyday items beautiful. She won many awards at rug hooking exhibitions, such as Hildene and Shelburne Museum, to name just two. Much of her artistry was inspired by her appreciation of the magnificence of nature and life in its totality.
Jean loved and cherished her family, traveling often to be with them, especially her beloved granddaughters. Jean also treasured her many friends and she gave generously of herself to all. She had a knack for making anyone she encountered feel welcomed and significant.
Surviving Jean are her beloved husband Edward; her son Keith Fleming and his wife Alex and their daughters Lucy and Ella of Melrose, MA; and son Cavan Fleming and his wife Scarlett and their daughter Emory of Blacksburg, VA; Jean is also survived by her siblings Ruth Durand, Ann Brady, Paul Brady and Bill Brady and their spouses, their children and their grandchildren.
Jean lived with grace and dignity. She will be forevermore deeply missed by her loving family, neighbors, and friends.
