Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Jeanne M. Coseo, 86, died Tuesday (Nov. 17, 2009) at the Saratoga Care Nursing Home in Saratoga Springs, NY, following a courageous and lengthy battle with multiple sclerosis. Born on Feb. 24, 1923, she was the eldest of seven children from the marital union of Mary Cogan and Carl McMahon. Jeanne graduated from Saratoga High School and enrolled in Skidmore College, later transferring to St. Peters Hospital School of Nursing in Albany where she earned her professional licensure as a registered nurse. During World War Two, she served in the US Army Nurse Corps as head nurse in the surgical ward at Borden General Hospital in Chickasha, OK. Following her honorable discharge as a 2nd lieutenant, she provided nursing care at the VA hospital in Saratoga Springs where she met her future husband who was recovering from injuries suffered as an Army Air Force pilot. After raising her six children in Canton, NY, she continued her nursing career in the dialysis unit at Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg. Jeanne dedicated her life to family and service to others. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and travel. She volunteered for countless religious and community organizations. Her home was always open to relatives, friends, and neighbors. She was loved and held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert, who died on Mar. 29, 1976. She is survived by her six children; Nancy (Steve Korn), Mary (Mark Deyle), Peter (Terri), Jim (Donna), John (Jeanne), and Thomas (Donna), along with ten grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and countless friends. Her sisters, Mary Reuss, Margaret Markes, Elizabeth McCarthy, and Katherine Coons and brothers, John and Edward McMahon all continue to reside in the Saratoga area. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8pm Friday (Nov. 20, 2009) in the Chapel at the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12noon Saturday in St. Mary's Church, 66 Court St., Canton, NY and burial will follow in their parish cemetery. Donations in Jeannes memory can be sent to the Resident Activity Fund at Saratoga Care Nursing Home, 211 Church Street, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866. The family extends a tremendous debt of gratitude to all the staff at the Saratoga Care Nursing Home for the physical care, comfort and companionship given to their mother and grandmother during her stay in the facility.
