Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Joan Beddow Purner, formerly of Wilton, passed away on Saturday (Feb. 7, 2009) at Wesley Health Care Center. She was 74. Born on May 3, 1934 in Cohoes, she is the daughter of the late Peter A. Beddow and Claudine (Couture) Beddow. She is the wife of Frank J. Purner, whom she married on May 27, 1961. Joan graduated from Watervliet Central Schools. She was a bookkeeper for the National City Bank of Troy. Later, she was a housekeeper for the parish of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Latham, where she was also a member of the Altar Rosary Society. They moved to the Saratoga Springs area in 1982. She was an active grandmother, helping to raise her grandchildren. Later, she worked at the YMCA in the baby sitting room. She especially enjoyed family trips in the motor home, and the company of her Shelties. Survivors in addition to her husband and mother, include two sons, Jay (Caroline) Purner of Rotterdam and Jeffrey (Nicole) Purner of Wilton; one brother, Peter A. (Gloria) Beddow of Nellysford, VA; loving grandchildren, Alan, Adair, Hunter and Lily Purner and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday (Feb. 10) from 5-7pm at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am Wednesday (Feb. 11, 2009) at the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, by Father Dominic S. Ingemie, pastor. Burial will be in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville. Memorials may be made in her name to Wesley Health Care Center, 131 Lawrence St. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
