Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY- JoAnne (DeMarco) Stanton, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, surrounded by loved ones after a brief illness.

She was born in Schenectady and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School before earning her Bachelor of Education degree from SUNY Geneseo. As the first in her family to attend college, JoAnne was a proud trailblazer who carried her love of learning throughout her life. She met her husband, Keith, while teaching sixth grade at Palmyra-Macedon Middle School, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in shared values and a deep belief in the power of education.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures: reading the newspaper cover to cover daily, tending to her lawn and flowers, cooking and baking for family and friends, and spending time in two of her favorite places—Saratoga Springs and Clearwater, Florida. JoAnne had a gift for making friends wherever she went, always offering kindness, conversation, and warmth.

JoAnne is survived by her children, who were her pride and joy: her son, Daniel, and his sons, William and Keane; her daughter, Jennifer, and husband, Joe Stump, with their children, Benjamin and Karah. Her grandchildren were the lights of her life.  She is also survived by her brother, Albert (and his wife, Linda), and her sister, Linda DeMarco. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Keith; her parents, Albert and Anne DeMarco; and her sister and brother-in-law, Patti and Marv Cermak. Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate to know her. We loved her deeply and always will.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Road, Loudonville. Rite of Committal will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, where JoAnne will be laid to rest in the family plot.  Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY (518) 584-5373.

In lieu of flowers, please show kindness to a child, animal, or stranger, watch a sunset, read more, plant something green, or bring a baked good to someone you love. Carry her memory not in grand gestures, but in the gentle way you move through the world.

Those wishing to honor her memory may consider a donation to their local library or animal shelter—causes she held close to her heart.
