Saratoga Springs, NY - John J. "Jack" Carey Jr., a longtime resident of Saratoga Springs, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 in Sarasota, FL, following a long illness. He was 78. Born in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late John J. and Mary C. (Daly) Carey, Sr., and graduated from Boston University. He immediately joined his father's business working in various departments on his way to the position of CEO of Northern Distributing Co. a wholesale beer distributor located in Glens Falls NY. During his tenure at Northern Distributing, Jack greatly expanded the product lines carried by the company as well as doubling the territory awarded by numerous breweries. He received many awards during his extensive career, including Man of the Year from the NY State Beer Wholesalers. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoying hunting with his father, teaching his three daughters how to ski and many summers were spent with his wife and daughters at Cape Cod. Most of all, he loved working on his golf game at the Glens Falls Country Club, Saratoga Golf and Polo Club and McGregor Links Country Club and he was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Saratoga-Wilton B.P.O. Elks Lodge 161. He was predeceased by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Carole; three loving daughters, Colleen Carey, Maureen Ireland and Jacquelyn Pietrantone; eight grandchildren, of whom he was so proud and one sister, Barbara Britton. Private graveside services will be in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave. The family wishes to thank the staff at Arden Court, Tidewell Hospice and Ben Andersen for their outstanding care, comfort and devotion.
