Obituary

Ballston Spa, NY - John R. DeMartino, affectionately known as Sockman, Johnny D., JD, Quincy, Poppy, 3 Eyed George and One Eyed Jack, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. He was 69. Born on March 9, 1944 he was the son of the late Joseph and Sadie Rucinski- DeMartino. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Dino. John began his career as Deputy with the Saratoga County Sheriff's Department in 1971. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1976. He graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA and promoted to Investigator in 1978. Retiring from the Sheriff's Department in 1999 he was elected Saratoga County Coroner in 2000 to present. His daily adventures would bring him to the Medbery Barbershop in Ballston Spa and Hannaford which he would frequent at least 3 times a day. John loved going to the Saratoga Racetrack, Gardening, The Mets, Shrimp Mangino, Pasta and Garlic. He also owned and operated the Sweat Shop on Milton Ave. in Ballston Spa. Survivors include the love of his life,wife Dale A. DeMartino, a/k/a Tootles; his children, Leah DeMartino-Kane (Bob), Johnna DeMartino-Guido (Eric), Ronald Duell, Melody Scaia, Brandie Scaia-Calderon (Carlos) and Chris Ward (Steph); grandchildren, Abby Ward, Cheyenne Ward, Danitra Calderon, Scaia Calderon, GiGi Guido, Robert Kane and the late Noelle Johnsen; siblings, Mary Zielnicki (Wally), Junior and Shirley DeMartino, Bobby and Carol DeMartino, Donna Wilt; loving in-laws and several nieces and nephews; his buddies Jack and Lilly and friends Jim and David Hathaway. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7:30pm Friday, May 31, 2013 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373) with funeral services at 7:30pm. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Noelle Sarah Johnsen Memorial Scholarship Fund, 91 West Avenue, Saratoga Springs, New York.
