Saratoga Springs, NY - John J. Finerty, 92, of Saratoga Springs, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012. Born on June 13, 1920 in Kingston, NY, he was the son of the late James and Elsie Borgwardt Finerty. A US Army Air Corps veteran serving during World War Two (from 1942-45), he was a navigator over Germany aboard B-17s and was also a veteran of the Korean War. A former resident of Kingston, NY and a graduate of Kingston High School class of 1937, he had resided in Hunter, NY and lived in Saratoga Springs since 1964. He worked on tug boats in New York City and was also employed by the New York Telephone Company, retiring after 37 years. A born-again Christian, he was married to the former Mary Herring in September, 1945. She is still residing in Saratoga Springs. In addition to his wife, survivors include five children; John (Carol) of Alexandria, VA, Donald (Patricia) of Las Vegas, NV, Emily (Gary) of Holley, NY, Michael (Andrea) of Poultney VT and Mary (William) of Ballston Spa, NY five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Graveside services with military honors will be conducted at 10:30am Tuesday at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. There are no public calling hours and memorials may be made in his name to any area Community Hospice or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
