Obituary

Delmar, NY John Laurence Funke, of Willow Drive, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at St. Marys Hospital in Troy. He was 80. Born on June 5, 1930 in Detroit, Mich., he was a son of the late Laurence J. and Helen (Sonneman) Funke. He was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and was valedictorian of his class. He was a US Marine Corp veteran, honorably discharged following service in the Korean War and was an avid fisherman. John owned and operated The Flower Shoppe in Clifton Park for 17 years and also was a package designer for Proctor & Gamble. Survivors include his three daughters, Melissa Funke-Bilu of Cambria, CA, Marcia Weakland of Saratoga Springs and Mindy Funke of Cranbury, NY; his son, Brook Funke of Queensbury, NY; one brother, Thomas (wife, Jewel) Funke of Mt. Pleasant, SC; 7 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Relatives and friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30am Friday, January 28, 2011 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373), followed by a funeral service at 9:30am at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be conducted at 10:30am at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville. Online remembrances may be made at www.burkefuneralhome.com.
