Wilton, NY - John J. Gacek, of Donegal Way, passed away suddenly Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, following a brief illness. He was 67. Born on May 25, 1945 in Greenwich, Conn., he graduated with a B.S. from Castleton State College in Vermont and later earned a Master's degree from SUNY Albany. He had a long and rewarding career as an Optician and was most recently employed with Oneonta Eye and Laser Center. He married his wife and best friend, Jacqueline, in 1986 and together they enjoyed cruising and wine country travel. John enjoyed reading, libraries, taking long walks with his wife and attending events at SPAC. In addition to his wife, he is the brother of Annette (Nick) Argyros of Loudonville and is an uncle to Chris Argyros of Albany. Survivors also include several aunts, uncles and cousins. Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 6pm Friday at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs 584-5373. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. All are invited to attend a celebration of John's life to be held after calling hours (6pm) at the Inn at Saratoga, South Broadway. Parking is available behind the Inn, on the street and at The Church of St. Peter. The family has requested that charitable memorial donations may be made in John's name to the Saratoga Springs Public Library, 49 Henry Street or to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, 108 Avenue of the Pines, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
