IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Hudak
Jr
November 26, 1926 – August 17, 2022
Saratoga Springs, NY- John Hudak Jr, 95, of Saratoga Springs, NY, formerly of Warminster, PA, passed away August 17, 2022, after a brief illness.
John was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey to an immigrant father from Slovakia, John Hudak Sr, and a first-generation American mother, also Slovakian, Mary Horbaly.
John was a veteran of World War II and enlisted in the Navy before graduating from high school in 1944. He trained at Sampson Naval Training Station, Samson, NY on Lake Seneca to become an Electricians Mate then served on a wooden mine sweeper (YMS-245) in the South China Sea during the latter part of the war. Dad was proud of his service.
John returned to Perth Amboy after the war and soon after met Susan Bovenzi, the love of his life, on a blind date in Seaside Heights, NJ. They were married in St. Catherine's church, Spring Lake, NJ, on November 16, 1952, then built their home and raised a family in Edison, NJ. John and Sue retired to Brick, NJ for many years before moving to the Ann's Choice retirement community in Warminster, PA. They shared a love of spending time at the NJ shore, music and dancing, and John loved billiards and poker. He was a kind and loving father. As a World War II veteran, John knew the preciousness of democracy; he voted in every election during his life. John was a retiree of the United Association of Steamfitters and Pipefitters Union, Local 9, of Englishtown NJ.
His wife Sue passed away in June of 2020. John decided to move to Saratoga Springs to live closer to his daughter and son-in-law in February 2022. He'd visited there a couple of times previously, and quickly adopted a Saratogian lifestyle – spending sunny afternoons on the porch reading the newspaper, or just taking a nap. John maintained a sharp eye at the pool table at the Senior Center and loved their music programs.
He is survived by his children, Robert Hudak (Maria) of Somerset, NJ, and Susan Cohen (Mitch) of Saratoga Springs, NY, and two beloved grandchildren, Jessica Hudak of Montreal, and Alexander Hudak of Somerset. He is also predeceased by his siblings Mary (Mae Hudak) Zarinsky and Helen (Hudak) Leitner.
John's ashes will be inurned with those of his wife at Washington Crossing National VA Cemetery in Newtown, PA, at 11am December 23, 2022. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
John's family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Wesley Woodlawn Community, Saratoga Springs, and the caregivers and staff of Home Instead (Gansevoort, NY) for the extraordinary loving care they gave to John. The family also thanks the doctors and nurses and techs of Saratoga Hospital who provided such wonderful care and kindness to John and his family.
