Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - John William Laraway, 82, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Wesley Health Care Center.

John was born on May 20, 1941 in Schenectady NY, to the late Glenn A. and Lois V. Laraway of Scotia, NY and Venice, Fl. He graduated from Scotia-Glenville High School in 1959 and then attended business school. He retired in 1986 as a Data Communications Specialist after a 23 year career with the New York State Police at Division Headquarters in Albany, NY. He was so proud to work for the best law enforcement agency in the country. After retiring from the New York

State Police, he began a 25 year career at Wesley Health Care Center. Starting as a front desk receptionist he then went on to work in Leisure Services, planning activities for residents before becoming the secretary for the department. His employment at Wesley was the most fulfilling for him as he developed many lifelong friendships throughout his years there and he enjoyed working with and getting to know the residents. Not many people can say they loved their job, but John sure could.

John loved spending time with his family and friends, rooting for the New York Yankees and the Notre Dame Football team. Starting at 3 years of age, John faced many medical challenges throughout his life. Regardless, he never let those challenges stop him from enjoying life to the fullest.

He is survived by his two beloved children, who were his pride and joy. A daughter, Michele (Mark) LeChevet of Ballston Spa, NY and his son Michael Laraway of Corinth, NY. He held much love and pride for all his grandchildren as well, Claire and Johnathan Lechevet of Ballston

Spa NY, Ethan, Brayden and Alexis Laraway and Austin Carvajal of Corinth, NY. He is also survived by his sister, whom he loved so much, Nancy Laraway Weissflog of Cohoes, NY and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His family would like to thank the entire Wesley Community for all of their love and support throughout his years as an employee and for the time he was a resident there himself. They are forever grateful for the care they gave him.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John's name to The Wesley Foundation, 131 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
