Saratoga Springs John Morrissey of Crommelin Drive died Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Saratoga Hospital. He was 75 years old. A husband, father, grandfather and brother is now at peace. Mr. Morrissey was born in Victory Mills March 9, 1933, the son of the late James and Susan Morrissey. As a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, he was the first member to be inducted into the honor society. While earning a bachelors degree from the University of Albany, he was a member of Signum Laudis (national honor society) and the Potter Club social fraternity. He received masters degrees from the University of Albany and Union College. While serving in the US Army he was stationed at White Sands Missile Range. He was a beloved mathematics teacher at Saratoga Springs High School for 34 years. After 19 years as department chairman, he retired in 1992. He coached varsity football with Bruce Haswell under head coach Raymond Waldron. He served as a co-chairman of the graduation committee for many years. Mr. Morrissey was a member of St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Nancy Carr Morrissey, his son Michael (Christine) Morrissey, his grandchildren Margaret, Laura, and Sean, and his brother James (Anne) Morrissey, all of Saratoga Springs. Relatives and friends may call from 4-7pm Tuesday at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway (584-5373). Funeral services will be 10:30am Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot at Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Avenue. A gathering will follow at Pennells Restaurant.
