Gansevoort, NY - John Joseph Roberts, Sr. of Hammond Lane passed away Monday, January 19, 2009 at Saratoga Hospital at the age of 66. Born on December 29, 1942 in Troy, NY, he is the son of Ruth Conroy Roberts and the late Armand Roberts. John graduated from Albany Christian Brothers Academy and went on to serve in the US Army. He was an avid history buff and loved watching the History Channel as well as Animal Planet. John worked as a driver for the Saratoga Springs City School District and also Saratoga Bridges. He was an accomplished musician and a member of Local 13 Musicians Union in Troy. In addition to his mother Ruth of Old Orchard Beach, ME, survivors include his loving wife Mary (Brooks) Roberts of Gansevoort; two daughters, Cheryl (Patrick) Traver of Greenfield and Michelle Brooks of San Antonio, TX; one son, John J. Roberts, Jr. of Corinth; seven grandchildren, Alexis Brooks (Zachary) Bankston, Vanessa Traver, Jack Brooks, Eric Traver, John Roberts III, Payton Brooks and Raechel Roberts and one sister, Mary (Michael) Opalka of Cohoes. Relatives and friends may call from 6 - 8pm on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373) with a funeral home service to follow at 8pm. Burial with military honors will be Friday, Jan. 23, 2009 at 10:30am at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Rd., Schuylerville.
