Ballston Lake - John "Marty" Martin Shea, Sr., formerly of Saratoga Springs, passed away Friday (Nov. 21, 2008) at his residence. He was 85. Born on July 9, 1923 in Saratoga Springs, NY, he was the son of the late John J. and Elizabeth V. (VanSteele) Shea. A graduate of St. Peter's High School and Georgetown University, he had served as a bombardier and navigator in the US Army Eighth Air Force during World War II. John worked for the General Electric for 39 years and was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church in Clifton Park. He enjoyed spending time sailing and being surrounded by his family at the Great Sacandaga Lake. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Mary Theresa (Vianna) Shea, who died on March 2, 1987. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Ann Shea and her husband Dennis McDermott of Mt. Vernon, NY, Mary Shea Bulmer of Saratoga Springs, Carol Ann Johns and her husband Richard of Raleigh, NC; one son, John M. Shea, Jr. and his wife Christine of St. James, NY; eight grandchildren, Joseph Rojas, Alex Shea, Justin Lansley, John Tyler Shea, Shea Theresa Johns, Leah Marie Johns, Graeme Bulmer and Matthew Shea. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 5 pm Sunday (Nov. 23, 2008) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Monday in the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, by the Rev. Dominic S. Ingemie, pastor.
