Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - John J Stasko, 97, peacefully entered eternal rest on Wednesday (June 17, 2015) at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs following a brief illness. Born in Elizabeth, NJ on March 30, 1918, the oldest child of the late Rose and Feodor Stasko, he grew up in several locations in the area, including Halfmoon, Vischer Ferry and Stillwater. Enlisting in 1943, he was a US Army veteran of World War Two and served until 1946. John and Julia raised their three children in Waterford, NY prior to moving to Saratoga Springs in 1972. John had a long and distinguished career with the US Army Arsenal in Watervliet, serving 37 years in many positions which culminated there as the Gauge Warehouse Supervisor. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing and hunting in his beloved Adirondack Region. He and a few friends were the founding members of The Shenandoah Archers Club in Niskayuna in the mid-1950s. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years, Julia Theresa Stasko, who passed in 2010; one sister, Mary and a brother, Michael, who had left us earlier. He is survived by his loving children, John F. Stasko of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Sandra R and husband James Romansky of South Jamesport, NY and Nancy E. and husband Richard Batto of Tampa, FL and one sister, Helen Dehring of Albany. He is grandfather to Allison Romansky, Beth and husband Chris Winter, Erica Batto, Richard and wife Melissa Batto, Alexandra Stasko, and Katherine Stasko. John is also great grandfather to Victoria Rose Winter, Theodore James Winter, Dean Alexander Batto and is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the local area. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8pm Wednesday (June 24, 2015) at the William J Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs 584-5373. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Thursday (June 25) in St Clement's Roman Catholic Church, 231 Lake Ave., Saratoga Springs. Burial will follow in the Stasko family plot at St Peter & Paul Cemetery, Middletown Road, Waterford. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staffs at Saratoga Hospital and the Wesley Center for their kind and compassionate care during his brief time there.
