Wilton, NY - The world lost a beautiful person and a Wilton legend Monday July 17, 2017. John Vincek, 61, passed gently in his home surrounded by his beloved family, following a valiant battle against metastatic melanoma.
John was born in Saratoga Springs, July 31, 1955. Known affectionately in our community as "Farmer John", he was deeply respected for his honor, integrity, humility, optimism, and boundless generosity. From childhood he loved farming, a passion he learned from his grandfather, Grampa Vincek. John felt deeply about being a steward of the earth, a virtue he taught his children. Also, he was greatly honored and proud to continue the historic farm and be known as one of "The Last Farms Standing".
Little known about John was that he was a secret scholar due to his extraordinary love of reading and learning about everything he encountered. He was an aficionado of WWII and astonished all with his indepth knowledge.
John was a true adventurer and traveled across our vast nation in an epic road trip. His favorite places were the Adirondacks, the Florida Keys and the mighty Redwood Forest. Through surprising twists of fate he was able to travel the world as far as Korea, Hong Kong, India, and Jamaica.
John gave generously, volunteered for, and supported numerous causes in our community; St. Clement's school and church, Operation Adopt a Soldier, Elks Club, Thoroughbred Retirement, several local churches, schools, and children's organizations. John never sought recognition, for he was a humble spirit who felt honored to help one and all.
John leaves behind his cherished wife of 38 years, Laura Vincek, and his five beloved children: Dana Vincek (fiance David Szumowski), Joshua Vincek (Erica), Stacia Buttles (John), Josiah Vincek (Sheetal), Nathaniel Vincek (Celia Calbone). He also leaves his precious "Littles" the joyful bright lights of his life; his grandchildren: Regan Catherine and Johnny Buttles and Mina Margaret Vincek. He is survived by his two brothers; Paul Vincek, Andrew Vincek, his mother Rita Vincek, several nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his father George Vincek, and his brother George J. Vincek.
Our family would like to thank oncologist Dr. Mongon for his exceptional care and compassion. We would like to thank The Mollie Wilmot Cancer Center, the CR Wood Cancer Center, and all of the nurses for their kindness and thoughtfulness. A special thank you to Community Hospice for helping us to care for him in the only place he wanted to be; with his family in his home and on his farm. We wish to express our eternal gratitude to John's most special nurse of all, his niece Cynthia Robbins.
To our dearest family and friends, we cannot thank you enough for carrying us through this time. We will never forget your help, kindness, generosity and most of all, your love.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in John's honor may be made to our two local cancer centers; Saratoga Hospital Foundation/The Mollie Wilmot Radiation Oncology Cancer, and Glens Falls Hospital Foundation/C.R. Wood Cancer Center.
