Saratoga Springs, NY - John E. Warner of Caroline St., died Friday (Feb.20, 2009) at Saratoga Hospital. He was 88. Born on May 14, 1920 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Edgar and Ella (Ahearn) Warner. He was a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School and served in the US Navy during World War Two, performing submarine service in the North Atlantic and Pacific. Following his honorable service, he was employed by Spencer and Sons Plumbing and later by Boyce and Drake. A plumber all his life, he also worked for the city of Saratoga Springs Water Department and retired from the Glens Falls Plumbers Union #773. John enjoyed golf, coached for the Special Olympics and never missed a Saratoga Springs High School football game. A member of Bethesda Episcopal Church, he also served as an usher for many years. Survivors include his loving wife, Eleanor (Jenkins) Warner; two daughters, Eileen (Thomas) Santoro and Janet Ramos; one son, David Warner, all of Saratoga Springs; his grandchildren, Kyle, Sarah, Brian, Tommy and Deanna and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by five sisters. Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Tuesday at Bethesda Episcopal Church, corner of Washington Street at Broadway. The Rev'd. Canon Thomas T. Parke, rector, will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes of 628 North Broadway (584-5373). Memorials may be made in his name to the Saratoga Hospital Emergency Room Building Fund, 211 Church Street, or to the Bethesda Episcopal Church, Washington St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
