Wilton, NY- Joseph P. Burns, 93, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Born on February 18, 1931 in West Hebron, NY, he was the son of the late, William and Geneva (Tootsie) Clute Burns.
Joe proudly served in the US Army in the "forgotten war" (Korea) from 1951 to 1953. He obtained his degree as an operating room technician at Fort Sam in Houston, TX.
Joe was employed and retired from the Town of Wilton Highway Department after eighteen and half years. He was a Wilton Volunteer Firefighter for twenty-five years and became a life member. He was also a life member of the VFW Post 40, the North American Hunting and Fishing Club and the American Legion Post 70.
In addition to his parents, Joe is predeceased by his daughter, Margaret Lynn Burns, his granddaughter, Kayla Lee Whitney, his son in law, David Whitney, his brothers, William, James, John, Frank Burns as well as two sisters, Grace Mae Rice and Geneva Yvonne Burns.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Marguerite (Petel) Burns, his daughters, Jo Ann Burns Berrett (Brent) of Arizona and Mar-Jo Burns of Milton, the love of his life, his granddaughter Shelby Jordan Whitney of Milton, his brother, Clarence Burns (Norma) of Scotia, NY, his sister-in-law, Sharon Burns of Pennsylvania as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At Joe's request there will be no services. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
