Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Joseph B. Farrington, Sr. passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side on June 13, 2024. He was born September 28, 1929 in Saratoga Springs to the late Emmitt J. and Katherine (Sullivan) Farrington. Joseph attended St. Clement's Parochial School and graduated from Saratoga Springs High School.

Joseph's great grandfather, Jacob H. Farrington was one of the five Bottle Makers on Mount Pleasant (Glass Factory Mountain) in the late 1840s and 1850s.

A lifelong member of St. Clement's Parish, Joseph was active in many ministries: usher, lector, choirs and parish council. He was part of Company L, 105th Infantry, New York, National Guard (Company Clerk) for two years, and the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954 with the Korean Conflict.

Joseph had a fulfilling professional career. From 1944-1950, he worked for H.C. Foote Paint and Glass. When he returned from the Navy in 1954, he worked for Arrow Glass Co. Inc. in Schenectady from until 1966 before founding Spa Glass & Mirror Co. Inc. with William D. Becker. In 1985, Joseph managed Glens Falls Paint & Glass Company on Warren Street in Glens Falls until 1990.

Along with being a lifelong parishioner of St. Clement's, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus- since 1956 he was a Third Degree in the Saratoga Council #246 and since 1962 a Fourth Degree in the Saratoga Assembly. Joseph was a Past Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree and Color Corps member; a past Columbian Association President; a Board of Governors member with the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick; Adirondack Post #70 American Legion; and Dominick Smaldone Post #35 Saratoga Italian American War Veteran. From 1948-1950 he was a member of the Saratoga Cadet Corps and the Company L 105th Infantry, NY National Guard (CO. Clerk). Joseph was a former member of the Racing City Chorus SPEBSQSA (Barbershoppers); the Rotary International of Saratoga Springs; the Ancient Order of Hibernians in America (Saratoga Division); and the Capital Districk Irish Northern Aid Committee. He was previously on the Board of Directors for the Saratoga Springs Chamber of Commerce.

He was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife Philomena, his sisters Agnes, Marie and Jane and granddaughter Kara Schepens

Survivors include his 10 children, Gerard of Saratoga Springs NY, Colleen Choate (George) of Porter Corners NY, Joseph Jr. (Donna) of Lake George NY, Ellen Valle (Brian) of Severna Park MD, Katie White (Mark) of Greenwich NY, Susan Schepens (Carl) of Santa Fe New Mexico, Daniel of Saratoga Springs NY, Janine Morris (Robert) of Middle Grove NY, Neil (Naomi) of Gansevoort NY and Siobhan Macaulay (Tim) of Charlton NY. Grandchildren: Megan, Thomas, Brooke, Courtney, Brent, Paige, Brenna, Daniela, Joseph, Sarah, Shannon, Erika, Justin, Maureen, Connor, Lauren, Teagan, Great Grandchildren: Collin, Zoey, Ryker, Quinn, Eloise, Jack.

Relatives and friends may call from 4-6pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 (518-584-5373).  Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at 5:30 PM for their service and members of the AOH will then follow and meet at 6:00pm for their service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am, Wednesday, June 19 in St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave.
