Saratoga Springs, NY – Joseph Jacobson passed away Saturday, October 28 2017 at the Baptist Health Nursing Home in Scotia. He was 95.
Born in Jersey City, NJ on June 24, 1922, he was the son of the late, Benjamin and Betty (Levi) Jacobson.
At the age of three he and his family moved to New York City where he would go on to graduate from Dewitt Clinton High School. After high school, Joe attended City College for one and a half years studying accounting.
Joseph was drafted into the 5th Army Air Corps, as a medic during WWII, where he traveled to New Guinea, the Philippine Islands and Japan.
After his service he was employed with the Veteran's Administration before deciding to go back to school for Pharmacy at Fordham University as a member of the graduating class of 1950. Joseph met his wife, Trudy while in college and the two were married on June 24, 1951, spending 60 loving years until her passing in 2012.
Joe went to work for Daws Drug in Rochester, NY and was later transferred to Saratoga Springs. Daws was eventually bought out by Rite Aid and he continued to work for them until his retirement in 1987. After retirement Joe became active in the Jewish Community Center and served on the Board of Directors of the synagogue for 25 years as the secretary, as well as President of B'Nai Brith for one year.
He and Trudy loved to travel the world together, he also loved to read, listen to music and dine out with friends. He especially enjoyed attending meets at the Saratoga Flat Track.
In addition to his wife and parents, Joseph is also predeceased by his grandparents, Anna and Joseph Levi and grandparents, Devorah and Jack Jacobson.
Joseph is survived by one daughter Brenda Litke and her husband Wayne of Greenfield Center; and one son, Dennis Jacobson and his wife Susan; three grandchildren, Jack Taylor, Walter Taylor and Jessica Hale.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Shaara Tfille, 84 Weibel Ave., Saratoga Springs. Burial will follow in the Jewish Community Center Cemetery.
The family will sit Shivah at their residence, 3 Gick Road on Tuesday evening at 7 pm.
