Saratoga Springs, NY- Joseph Edward Mayer, age 71, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2022 at Saratoga Springs Hospital with his wife and three daughters by his side.

Joe was born on April 13, 1951 in Allentown, PA to his father, Edward, and his mother, Fay, who shared his same birthday. He was the oldest of 5 children. He spent his childhood in Allentown and graduated from William Allen High School in 1969. Joe then joined the US Navy and served for 8 years. He married Bonnie Baer in December of 1972 and they were blessed with three daughters. Post-military, Joe and Bonnie resided between Allentown, PA and Saratoga Springs, NY. Joe worked hard for 35 years as a truck driver and retired from Wal Mart in 2015 where he was lovingly nicknamed "Little Joe". He was also a licensed electrician, a skilled handyman, and a talented musician playing the organ and the accordion in church and at home. Joe took pride in his years of officiating baseball, softball, and basketball. He enjoyed collecting model trains and trucks and had a very special fondness for fire trucks in action.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Fay as well as his brother, James. He is survived by his siblings, MaryBeth (Fred) Lang, Edward (Janice) Mayer, and Kathy (Eric) Gruzdis. Also survived by his wife, Bonnie, his three daughters, Jeanean (Jay) Richards, Julie (Charlie) Senecal, and Jackie (Tony) Miller, 7 grandchildren, Miranda, Chiann, Julien, Trey, Morgan, Charlie and Claire as well as 4 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may call from 10:00am to 12:00pm, Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 N. Broadway Saratoga Springs, NY (518-584-5373) followed by a funeral home service at 12:00pm. Graveside service and burial with Military Honors at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY will follow at 1:30pm.
