Saratoga Springs, NY - Joseph S. McCarthy, Sr., 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday (July 26, 2016) at Saratoga Hospital.
Born on April 16, 1927 in Saratoga Springs, he was the son of the late Michael J. and Elena (Etes) McCarthy. A graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, he served in the US Army from 1945 to 1946. Following his service, Joe attended Bentley College in Boston, MA. He married the love of his life, the former Marie Johnson, and together they raised their family in Saratoga Springs. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, four brothers and three sisters.
Joe worked for Espey Manufacturing, the Saratogian newspaper and the Ft. Miller Service Corp. He was a lifetime member of Saratoga Council 246 Knights of Columbus and was a member and communicant of the Church of St. Peter on Broadway. Joe enjoyed the race track, gardening, coin collecting and most of all spending time with his loving family.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann (Paul) Stevens of Gansevoort and Diane M. (Barry) Quinlan of Hopedale, MA; four sons, Michael J. (Lynn) McCarthy of Queensbury, Joseph S. (Laurel) McCarthy, Jr. of Chicago, IL, David E. (Denise) McCarthy of Valencia, CA and Robert F. McCarthy of Glenville; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and several niece and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Saturday (July 30) in the historic Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, by the Rev. John D. Kirwin. Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Ave.
Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet at 6pm Friday at the funeral home for services.
