Obituary

Joy Irish Wilsey, 77, of Wilsey Road, Greenfield Center passed away Saturday, October 25th 2008 at her home with her family and cocker spaniel at her side. Joy was born in Buffalo, NY to Harold and Veronica (Hodges) Irish. She grew up in Hamburg, NY along with her beloved brother Jack Irish. Joy earned an Associates Degree in Ornamental Horticulture from Cobleskill College. She married A. William Bill Wilsey on June 14, 1952 and they recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary! They raised their 3 children in the Greenfield family home. Besides her husband, Joy is survived by her daughter Claudia (Wilsey) Bright and her husband Kevin and twin grandsons Zachary and Justin Bright of Los Angeles, CA; her son David Wilsey of Saratoga Springs; and daughter Patricia (Wilsey) Veitch and her husband Kevin and grandsons Ryan and Jacob of Greenfield Center. Other survivors include her brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and her special dogs Simpson and Cougar. Joy lived her life as a reflection of her name. She brought Joy to all she touched and never ceased to embrace new experiences, overcome challenges and live her life with kindness, grace and a beautiful smile. Joy loved her Church, having been a member of Old Stone Church in No. Milton for several years. She sang in the Choir, served as a Deacon, and was involved in all church activities; taking particular delight in mixing pancakes for their Pancake Suppers and working in the trenches at their annual Garage Sales. Prior to her affiliation with Old Stone Church, Joy was actively involved in Middle Grove Methodist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher and Superintendent of Sunday School. Joy added to the lives of many local children in the 1960s and 70s as 4-H Leader of the Daketown Hustlers 4-H Club. She was also a Cub Scout Den Leader. She was the always willing taxi driver for her children and their many friends delighting in their escapades and supporting their many interests. Joy had many passions. She loved roses and her flower gardens. She was a yearly volunteer at the Yaddo Rose Garden. Her home was always filled with numerous dogs, cats and rabbits all individually blessed with a name. She loved music especially jazz, and watching sports especially the Buffalo Bills. But most of all- she loved her family and the full life and wonderful memories she provided for them. Calling hours at William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs (584-5373) will be held Wednesday, October 29th from 5:00-8:00pm. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 30th at 10am at Old Stone Church, located at Stone Church Rd. and Route 29 in No. Milton. Burial will follow in Middle Grove Cemetery.
