Saratoga Springs, NY - Joyce Dominick-Schaefer, 81, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023.

Joyce was born to the late Joan (Stone) and Carmen Dominick on June 2, 1941. She grew up on the West side of Saratoga Springs and was a long time resident of Saratoga.

Joyce graduated from the Memorial School of Nursing in 1962 and was an RN. She started as a nurse at 22 and worked until she was 73. She loved being a nurse and worked at many of the areas hospitals. Joyce worked in various fields of nursing but spent the majority of her career as a nurse in the emergency department of Saratoga Hospital.

She was a proud member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks at the Saratoga-Wilton and Ballston Spa Lodges in New York and the South Hillsborough Elks in Florida, holding officer positions, serving a term as the Exalted Ruler and was a 3 Year Trustee of the South Hillsborough Elks. She enjoyed serving on a multitude of committees and was particularly active in writing grants to help veterans. Joyce fondly upheld the principles of Elkdom: Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity. She was also a member of the Principessa Elena Society.

Joyce was very social and particularly enjoyed going to Happy Hour. She loved to travel and was always up for an adventure.

Joyce is survived by her son Stephan (Barbara) Vetsch; her daughter Victoria Vetsch; and her granddaughters Victoria and Elizabeth. She is also survived by her sister Joan (Elroy) Lane; her beloved nieces and nephew, Karla (Bobby) Kascinski, Tony (Misty) Straus and Kristina (William) Lane; and many great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY.
