Ann Arbor, MI- Judith A. Pitney died on January 10, 2025 in Ann Arbor, Michigan at age 79. She was born in Saratoga Springs, NY, the daughter of Jerome and Margaret Pitney. Judith graduated from St. Peter's Academy in 1963, from Mercyhurst College (B.A. cum Laude) in 1967 and from the University of Wisconsin (M.A.) in 1969. She received her Ph.D. (Higher Ed Finance) form the University of Michigan in 1991.
Her career included senior administrative posts in both the public and private sectors of higher education. She was most proud of her service as Executive Direct of Resource Planning and Management at the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan (1992-2006) and as Vice Provost of Budget Planning and Administration at Northeastern University (2008-2012). In both of these positions she played a key role in developing and bringing on line major new academic buildings. Her many contributions to the College of Engineering were recognized in 2006 with the establishment of the annual Judith A. Pitney Staff Services Career Award. Judith's career was also distinguished by service as a planning consultant at the New York Public Library, Duke University and the University of Notre dame. Judith was as avid reader, an excellent cook and hostess and loved spending time on Cape Cod.
She is survived by her sister Kathleen Pitney of Niskayuna, NY, her brother William Pitney of Saratoga Springs, NY as well as two nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Jerome V Pitney III, her sister Margaret Jordan and her cherished nephew Michael Pitney.
At her request burial services will be conducted privately. Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Pitney Meadows Community Farm, 112 Spring Street, Suite 206, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Judith, William and Kathleen were founding donors of this important and vibrant community facility.
