Wilton, NY- Julia Mardale, 83, passed away on Monday August 1, 2022 at her residence.

Born in Romania, in 1938, just before WWII, Julia was the older daughter of Fr. Traian and Matushka Stela Frangu, and sister of younger Dan Frangu. She had to endure growing up during Communist times, being harassed by the state, because she was the daughter of a priest. Julia became a dentist after university. She met George Mardale and got married, moving to Campina, where both were given jobs, George at the factory as a mechanical engineer and Julia as the dentist to the factory hospital. She gave birth to Alin in 1965, and Simona in 1967. Then in 1978, Julia with her family emigrated to the United States to escape Communist persecution.  She became a naturalized US citizen in 1990. During this time, Julia studied to pass all the professionals tests required for practicing dentistry in the US. She practiced dentistry in the Bronx until her retirement. She divided her time after retirement between her home in Romania, which she was able to reacquire after the fall of the Communist government, and in the United States. In her final years, she moved back to the US full-time and settled in Wilton, NY where she resided with her daughter and her son-in-law.

Julia is survived by her brother Dan and sister-in-law Stela, her son Alin, daughter-in-law Sandy, granddaughters Brianna and Brittney, and her daughter Simona and son-in-law, Vincent.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 6-8PM on Thursday August 4, 2022 at Christ the Savior Orthodox Church, 349 Eastline Rd, Ballston Lake, NY 12019. A funeral service will be held on Friday August 5, 2022 at 10AM at the church.  Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons/ Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N.
