Obituary

Saratoga Springs Kathryn (Rubino) Humphrey, formerly of Webster Street, passed away Friday (Sept. 12, 2008) at the Wesley Health Care Center. She was 93. Kathryn was a longtime resident of Saratoga Springs and had recently resided at The Landing of Queensbury for four years. She was born on July 10, 1915 in Philadelphia, Pa and was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Crilly Rubino and grew up in Camden, NJ. She was a graduate of Camden Catholic High School and Peirce College in Philadelphia. For the next seven years she was secretary to the president of Camden Trust Company and had many wonderful friends and memories of those years as a young working woman. In 1942, on a train to New York, she met and later married Jack Humphrey, a soldier from Saratoga Springs. They moved to Tacoma, WA, where she joined many other military wives working in a shipyard, when her husband shipped out to France. After the war they returned to Saratoga Springs to live and raise their family. In 1960, with all her children in school, Kathryn began her second career at Skidmore as secretary to the Chairman of the Art Department. It was a job she loved until retirement in 1980. In her retirement years, she spent her winters in Naples, FL and she traveled, read, gardened, played a little golf, shopped and babysat whenever. She was smart, funny and fun and was the family poet. She was Katie to her grandchildren and delighted in her great children. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John W. Humphrey, who died Oct. 11, 1978, her sister, Marie R. Keating and her two brothers Stephen T. Rubino and Joseph R. Rubino. Survivors include two daughters, Mary (Mimi) Goldiner and husband David of Hollywood, SC, Sheila Brodie and husband Robert of Diamond Point; and one son, John W. Humphrey, Jr. and wife Joan of Reston, VA; sister-in-law, Lillian M. Rubino of Mt. Pleasant, SC; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey M. Goldiner, Elisabeth (Charlie) Skinner, Peter (Corrine) Brodie, Jonathan (Susan) Brodie, Andrew (Christina) Brodie, John W. Humphrey III, Madeleine Humphrey and ten great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Monday in the Church of St. Peter by the Rev. Dominic S. Ingemie, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Ballston Spa.
