Obituary

Saratoga Springs, NY - Kathy Frodey, 92, formerly of Preswick Chase Community in Saratoga Springs, NY peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by family on Friday, July 8, 2022.

Born in Englewood, NJ on February 22, 1930 to beloved parents Ann (Johnson) and Stephen Jones. She spent her youth growing up in New Jersey and rural Kentucky which she often spoke of with fond memories. She was a cherished younger sister of her late brothers Douglas and John Jones. Kathy was cheerful and had a smile that many throughout her life commented on. She was the first to welcome new arrivals into the neighborhoods and communities she lived in.

Kathy was a 1951 Home Economics Graduate of Carnegie-Mellon Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh where she met Dave Frodey (Carnegie Mellon Food Technology Engineering Masters Graduate) that led to their marriage on August 21, 1952. This was the beginning of a 68 year long blessed marriage with many adventures. Kathy was a wonderful devoted mom to her three children and turned her talents to teaching nursery school and being very active in the school community. She and Dave being adventurous took up skiing in their 40's which led to many family outings and fun times. As a couple they decided to launch their own business and in 1973 moved from New Jersey (where Dave ran a Plant Engineering Group for Union Carbide) to Clifton Park, NY to open a Taylor Rental Center Franchise that later they took independent as Clifton Park Rental Center. Kathy continued her Nursery School teaching for a few years then transitioned to work full time at the Rental Center running marketing and operations which became a critical factor in the business's success and growth. Kathy ran the front office and Dave ran the back office financial and technical aspects of the business; they were a great team. Kathy became very active in the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce to network and support the Rental Center business and in addition received a number of awards for her service to the Chamber. She missed teaching but also thoroughly enjoyed working with and befriending people from all walks of life in her new role. Today Clifton Park Rental Center has transitioned to a well-respected and high-quality Party and Convention Center business (run by Michael and Kathleen Frodey), a great legacy she and Dave left after their retirement. After many long years devoting most of their time to family and building their business Kathy and Dave became vacation travelers multiple times a year to locations ranging from Alaska to the Caribbean and other destinations in between. Kathy and Dave had many good years in retirement enjoying family, friends and in later retirement residents of the Preswick Chase Community in Saratoga Springs where they relocated to from Clifton Park. Kathy was known as a great cook, an avid reader throughout life, and loved playing bridge. She (with Dave) started an active bridge community upon their arrival at Preswick Chase which continues to thrive. She received a Preswick Chase community award that capped her lifelong passion to serve others. Kathy will be missed greatly by her extended family, friends and colleagues.

Kathy was the beloved wife for 68 years of the late David Frodey, devoted mother of Stephen (Margaret) Frodey and Michael (Kathleen) Frodey both of Clifton Park, and the late Ann E. Frodey (Michael McInerny), sister of the late John Jones (Vera) and Douglas Jones (Viola).  She is survived by 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
