After serving in the United States Army in World War II Keamer earned a Masters degree at Albany State University. He did post graduate work at Interlochen Center for the Arts, Interlochen, Michigan. In 1944 Keamer married Esther Curtis of Cobleskill, NY who also graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in music education. In 1976 Keamer and Esther moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, where Keamer participated in numerous musical groups, volunteered for ten years with Meals on Wheels and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. In Charlottesville Keamer began carving birds and continued this passion for more than twenty years creating countless carvings which he gave to friends, sold, or donated to help raise funds for charitable causes which were important to him. Keamers wife of 51 years predeceased him in 1995. In 2003 Keamer moved to Saratoga Springs, New York, where he enjoyed his new community and friendships, and the musical events at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center and the concert series at the United Methodist Church where he was also a member.
