Saratoga Springs, NY - Kenneth L. Schick passed away on September 16, 2021, with his loving wife of 64 years Elaine Schick at his side. He lived an exceptional life impacting everyone with whom he met with his brilliant and loving manner.
Kenneth was born on February 20, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York. He received his high school diploma from Stuyvesant High School, a B.S. from Columbia University, and a PhD in Physics from Rutgers University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
During his 43-year tenure as professor of Physics at Union College he was a Bailey Chair, the Physics Department Chair, and member of the Board of Trustees. A staunch believer in academic excellence he recruited outstanding professors including the author of the inaugural work on the Big Bang theory, and the inventor of artificial diamonds.
In addition to his work at Union College he was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, was a visiting Professor at The Weizmann Institute in Israel and served on many Middle States Accreditation Committees. In his retirement he was active on the boards of the Saratoga Independent School and the Legal Equality Advocacy Firm, Inc.; founded the Saratoga chapter of the Torch Club; and continued to review physics textbooks for Knopf Doubleday Publishing.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Elaine Schick, his brother Frank Schick of Long Island, his daughter Karen (Schick) Bellhouse and son-in-law Thomas Bellhouse, his son Louis Schick and daughter in law Bridgit Burke, grandchildren Jessica Cole, Martin Cole, Sam Schick and Noah Schick, his granddaughters-in-law Natasha Cole and Annabelle Taylor, and his dog Reggie. He was predeceased by his daughter Ruth Schick.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.
He will be remembered for his wonder of the world and delight in the people around him.
