Saratoga Springs, NY - Kevin J. Fittipaldi peacefully passed away Thursday (Dec. 11, 2008), to be with our Lord, after a short illness. He was 61. Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 8, 1947, he was raised in nearby New Hyde Park, NY. He was the son of the late Charles Fittipaldi and Helen O'Rourke Fittipaldi. A retired commercial fisherman of 30 years, he navigated such waters as the Gulf of Mexico, the Florida Straits, and the Caribbean Sea. A proud Vietnam War Veteran, Kevin served in the US Army from 1967 - 1969 as a machine gunner in the 5th Infantry Division. Through his honorable service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, and the coveted Combat Infantryman Badge. Twice wounded, he, like every other veteran and serviceman, gave everything and asked for nothing. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear sister, Anne Marie Fittipaldi. Survivors include his wife Margaret Manley Fittipaldi and his four children, Sean of Philadelphia, PA, Dominick of Concord, CA, Dina of Saratoga Springs and Charles of Berwick, LA. He was the loving brother of Barbara Rossi (Nunzio), Charlene Senzon, John Fittipaldi (Andrea) and Charles Fittipaldi (Yolanda). Also surviving are his two aunts, Ann Twigg and Helen O'Rourke; his nieces, Amada and Christina Fittipaldi and his nephew, Charlie Fittipaldi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Monday (Dec. 15, 2008) in St. Clement's Church, 231 Lake Ave. Burial with military honors will follow at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
