Saratoga Springs, NY- Kurt Altenburger passed away peacefully at the Home of the Good Shepherd in Saratoga Springs, NY on August 29, 2023 with his wife of 60 years, Agneta, by his side.

He is survived by his sons Hans-Joerg Altenburger and Ning Altenburger, Peter Altenburger and Denise Altenburger, and Eric Altenburger and Liz Barrett, and his loving grandchildren: Christine (Altenburger) Bunner and her husband Jordan, Catherine (Altenburger) Kopf and her husband Carl, Courtney (Altenburger) Myers and her husband Alex, James Altenburger, Ava Altenburger, and our beloved Rowen Altenburger who passed away too soon.

Kurt was raised in Leibnitz, Austria, the only child of the late Helga and Franz Altenburger. Life was an adventure for Kurt who grew up in post-World War II Europe and later hitchhiked to Sweden as a young man, where he met his future wife Agneta Hallden. They emigrated to the United States and begin their American dream. Kurt enlisted in the National Guard where he met lifelong friends Ted P. and Bob Z. They bought their first home to raise a family where Kurt learned the skills to remodel houses. Kurt was a very talented man who liked to keep busy; first as a tool and die maker as his full-time profession, a home remodeler, silversmith and stained-glass artist. Kurt was also an avid outdoor person who loved fishing, scuba diving and just being outdoors. After retirement Kurt and Agneta spent many miles in a Dodge van Kurt had converted into a camper travelling back and forth across the United States three times including Alaska to enjoy and appreciate all the beauty the USA has to offer. Above all else, Kurt was very proud of his family and always enjoyed good times spent together with family and friends at home and in Europe.

Services will be private for the family.  Arrangements are under the direction of the William J. Burke & Sons. Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Home, 628 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY.
