Lawrence (Larry) P. Winar, 75 of Saratoga Springs, NY and formally of New Hartford, CT passed away October 26, 2026, peacefully at home with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born and raised in Elmwood, CT and graduated from Conard High School.

At the age of 17 he earned his private pilot license but shortly after, enlisted in the US Army Reserve where he served from 1969-1975. In 1970 while still serving in the Reserves, he began his 46-year career as a dedicated and well-respected database administrator at Cigna. Upon his retirement, he relocated with his wife Mary to Saratoga Springs to be close to his daughter Sara and her family.

Larry will be remembered for his calm, kind, patient and gentle demeanor. His passions included coin collecting, fishing, gardening, participating in various golf and bowling leagues and cheering for his favorite teams: UConn Basketball, Boston Red Sox, NY Giants.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary Skerritt Winar of 42 years, daughter Sara (James) Hanley, grandchildren Jim and Bridget Hanley, brother Paul Winar, his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Jay and Cindy Skerritt, Kathy (Skerritt) and Ken O’Toole, Patty (Skerritt) and Randy Poulter, and John and Heidi Skerritt as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Ada Balboni Winar, mother and father-in-law Mary and Joseph Skerritt and a niece Kelsey (Poulter) Ferraz.

The family would like to thank Saratoga Oncology and Hematology; Dr. Liebers, Murtaza Singaporewala PA-C, their staff and the nurses at Saratoga Hospital Infusion Center and Dr. Pezzulo for their compassionate care.

Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, November 6, 2026 from 4-7pm at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday November 7, 2026 at 11am at St. Clement’s Church 231 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, NY with burial to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: Disabled American Veterans or The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. The family would also like to encourage anyone willing and able to give the gift of life through donating blood.
