Glenville, NY – Lazzaro (Larry) J. Leone, 83, formerly of Saratoga Springs, passed away on his birthday, September 16, 2016, following a brave battle with cancer.
Born in Saratoga Springs, NY, he was a son of the late Lazzaro J. and Louise (Dominick) Leone, Sr. and a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School. He was drafted into the US Army for two years, where he obtained the rank of private, before continuing his military service in the Army Reserves. Retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant, following 20 years of service, Larry also was employed with the former US Army Depot and served 33 years as a civil service employee. He then went to work for the NYS Office of General Services for ten years and officially retired in May of 1996.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Anna Catone, Michael and Joseph Leone.
Survivors include his son, John (Kathy) Leone and three daughters, Terry (David) Vanosky and Lou Ann (Kevin) Palmer, all of Rotterdam and Mary Ann Jurewicz (Michael Becker) of Hubert, NC; his grandchildren, Lauren (Nick) Hammond, Kyle (Michele) Palmer, Matthew Jurewicz, Lindsay (Justin) Davis, Lindsey, Joshua and Jordan Vanosky and Marissa and Nikki Leone; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 8pm Friday (Sept. 23, 2016) at the William J. Burke & Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway 584-5373.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday (Sep. 24) in the historic Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway, by the Rev. Thomas H. Chevalier, pastor.
Burial with military honors will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project or to the Joan Nicole Prince Home, P.O. Box 2122, Scotia, NY 12302.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire staff and volunteers at the Joan Nicole Prince House and to Community Hospice Albany/Saratoga Region. Your kindness and compassion was extremely comforting during this difficult time.
