Saratoga Springs - Leona Casey Signor, age 90, peacefully passed away on July 21, 2023. Lee was a Saratoga Springs transplant from the Boston area and quickly fell in love with her adopted home.

Born Leona Marie Casey in Pembroke, New Hampshire, the daughter of the late Francis Casey and Ada Gautreau Casey, she was one of eight children. As a child the family moved to Suncook, and later Manchester, New Hampshire where she graduated from St. Joseph's School for Girls in 1952. Following graduation Lee entered St. Joseph's Convent in Merrimack, New Hampshire as a postulate where she taught school while studying for final vows. She attended Emmanuel College, Boston, and Rivier College, Nashua, New Hampshire, and after leaving the convent attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing where she graduated in 1963 as a registered nurse. Her first nursing position was at Massachusetts General in Boston, Massachusetts. After moving to Saratoga Springs she worked on several units at the Saratoga Hospital.

Leona became immersed in the culture and history of the west side of Saratoga and wrote Dublin Revisited: Stories of the West Side, now in its third edition. She was a member of Principessa Elena Society, the West Side Neighborhood Association, the Historical Society of Saratoga Springs, and the International Women's Writers Guild. Leona was the co-founder of the West Side Oral Narrative Project with friend and City of Saratoga Springs Historian Mary Ann Cardillo Fitzgerald.

Leona is survived by two siblings, Gerald Casey, and Terri LeLievre; three children, Michael Meloni (Charlotte), Christopher Signor (Deana), Julean Anderson (Joe); eight grandchildren, Ryan, Teresa, Taralyn, Tracey, Erika, Rachel, Daniel, Sarah, and Joseph; many nephews, nieces and friends

Leona is predeceased by her parents, and five siblings, Francis, Edward, Raymond, Joseph, and Andrew.

Relatives and friends may call Friday, July 28, 2023 from 4:00 - 5:30 pm at William J. Burke and Sons/Bussing & Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. A funeral home service will follow at 5:30.

A Committal Prayer Service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, July 29, 2023 at St. Peter's Cemetery, West Avenue, Saratoga Springs.
